What is the main challenge that customers face today in Marine, Cargo and Stock Throughput risks?

We spoke with Fernando Gómez, Executive Director - Head of Global Marine at Argentum Re, who emphasizes that the biggest challenge is the increasing complexity and volatility of supply chains.

Today, risks go beyond simply transporting goods. Companies face greater accumulations in ports and warehouses, logistical disruptions, geopolitical conflicts, extreme weather events, changes in trade routes, and an increasingly significant dependence on third parties.

However, many insurance policies continue to be structured based on historical data or traditional models that don't always reflect the current operational reality of clients. The result can be insufficient protection precisely when it's most needed.

According to Fernando, the insurance market must evolve toward a more consultative approach, capable of:

  • Comprehensively understanding the logistics chain.

  • Improving data quality and analysis.

  • Identifying accumulations and critical exposure points.

  • Designing flexible programs that integrate transportation, warehousing, and business interruption.

True differentiation no longer lies solely in capacity or competitive rates. It lies in building solutions that evolve at the same pace as the client's business and respond effectively to claims.

At Argentum Re, we believe that understanding risk is the first step toward creating stronger, more sustainable coverage aligned with the challenges of global trade.
